YOU DO NOT NEED /TO BELIEVE

in anyone or anything-in bible or prophecy
pessimism or cynicism, determinism or free will
You may be as free as you wish to be
or a slave to failure, despair or death
It is as you choose makes the blues bruise
You write the script and dispense it
every one a character in this melodrama
Write them gently.Allow them exits and free will
They will talk to you(as characters are wont to do
and may reveal where this narrative heads next
It is unwritten(an oral saga-and may be released
as birds from cages of the heart/when next you wish
to embrace the freedom of full responsibility

DRAGON GRIEF(scorches your soul

Nothing is still something
It fills up time and space
It makes a hole in air
where you are not clear

Dragon grief burns the town
anger internalized,res barn
self-destructive ,inflamed
eating you alive inside

Failure is alluring-
no responsibility for victims
no one can criticize when
you are scorched earth

Whatever you say you are(you are not
Even nothingness demands/ you stop.

NIGHT &DAY,DARKNESS &LIGHT

WE move through cycles and have no choice
just to embrace each day and night
as we pass through seeds of dreams and swords of nightmares
silence and the right to use our voice

I read her when she said-
"WE is another name for God
It resonated and made sense-
community is Heaven

I is such a dangerous island
full of traps and isolation
Much prefer the solidarity
that comes from communality

Face life and death alone?No-
WE move through perceptions
Each a facet of a diamond
drilling deep in to the Mystery

"All religion is a kind of poetry, bad and good"

poetry has long infiltrated the novel
books by poets ,about poets,on poetic themes
attract like honey to the life of a bee
Virginia Woolf,William Faulkner , James Joyce wrote poetic novels
Lives of poets inspire prose writers, whose best efforts sing lines
like Arthur Rimbaud's (via Bruce Duffy)DISASTER WAS MY GOD.
John Clare's life (via Adam Fould)in THE QUICKENING MAZE
or fictionalized poets like Harry Quirk in Kate Christensen's THE ASTRAL
Parallels in film include Tom Conti as Dylan Thomas in REUBEN,REUBEN
Sean Connery in A FINE MADNESS,as well as the plethora of Beat movies
both fictional and some with actual poets or written by same (PULL MY DAISY)
all those Bukowsky flics,or biographies of THE LIVES OF POETS
THE GOSPELS OF ANARCHY,INFERNO,HUMBOLT's GIFT
reference poetry and poets as lifestyle and mode of response
Narrative poems have been filmed(MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER,THE SENTIMENTAL BLOKE)
and filmic poetry constituted Arthur Cantrill's and much of the Canadian Film Board's output
Image and concision define both film and poem.Novels become screenplays
Poetry remains an ocean in a teardrop.

FLOR de NOPAL/BEATFEST/FORREST FEST/AIPF

scrape our good earth for imaginary F1 corruption
Place concrete poem bunkers /dam rivers/chop trees
Cut down all alternatives/until even the stones cry "enough!"
Blood does not speak, nor tombstones. We gather because we must
and share ancestor stories as to how and why we are.
Creation sagas weaving communities /threaded destinies
We are more together than apart/our life is art
Unframed,we display our tattooed tales together
to enlarge perspective in a warring world
Your voice holds the bird of your life
It flies to the nest of my eyes and ears
when we treasure the measure of our years
Brief butterfly life!Even they swarm together
when all we have and hold is each other
Treasure the measure of your daily dramas
Scripted or un-,we have come to listen
Unroll the blanket .Let us sit together. And share

In Paris,in the snow,in winter

i saw a sign-LUNCH 37 Francs
i asked what was on the menu(non parle Francais)
"is difficult in English"waiter replied
"Numero Uno Menu?"i asked
he neighed like a horse(le chavalier)
"i will have number #2,bon jour!"

in Texas drought,this winter
he is selling all his stock
thinning out the herd
no money to be made
costs too much for feed(hay)
will you sell your horses?
he stops.thinks."that depends.."

once they used to race
and we would bet on them
in European wars
we would ride them
then eat them in siege
man's best friend

SINGULARITY(Again?

Ben Elton wrote this in Thatcher's England=STARK(STAR ARK)
Science fiction has played and replayed with the failed idea
that robots (I,ROBOT/TERMINATOR)will destroy our humanity.
The very idea of robots, replicants, mutants and humanoids
has fueled sci-fi plots in books, movies and comics ad infinitum
We toy with the IDEA of superpowers from SUPERMAN to GREEN LANTERN
They become the butt of jokes and lyrics of songs
and millions are spent upon unmanned missions
to Mars,sub-orbital flights and robocars(ROBOCOP 1#2#3)
GPS and Dick Tracey wristwatches exist -and sci-fi is here!(at least @conventions)
But despite Phillip K Dick's best projected fantasies,
we still cannot shoot down missiles in STAR WARS
or match movie special effects in ARMAGEDDON scenarios
STAR ARK failed due to human error, drones still kill civilians
and jetpacks exist for one French adventurer for 12 minutes of powered flight
Since cave art and Egypt,we have projected fantasies-
of alien visitations,space probes,mutant creatures
We have cloned sheep(DOLLY)and mapped the human genome.
We express philosophical conundrums about A.I and extended life via implants
Science is still following science fiction, and singularity is deja vu
Watch METROPOLIS,BRAVE NEW WORLD,1984
and ask if you REALLY wish to space time travel on Ark#1
or if robots will replace us in our lifetime.

he started out

writing jokes for other comedians
realized he could do a better job
so standup.Then books-WITHOUT FEATHERS etc
while expanding his visual flair into films
A film a year in the WA style has delighted us for 30 years-
and we have all embraced early, middle or late stage Woody
Some love his Bergman INTERIORS/i love MANHATTAN
others like CRIMES & MISDEMEANORS or HANNAH &HER SISTERS
He is always the little guy like a new Buster Keaton,
whose dour clown face shares a dark side to every thing
People compare his works ,without giving him credit
for his soundtracks(he plays jazz every Monday in New York)
and the fact that he is America's leading living independent film maker.
One day ,we will wake up-and he will be gone
and we will wonder if it is another Woody Allen film script
turned reality show....

THE LEAGUE OF LOPSIDED MEN

William Burroughs in Lawrence ,Kansas
Bernard Malamud in Oregon,Leslie Fiedler in Montana
Urban consciousness in a rural context.Strangers in a stranger land.
Import W H Auden and William Faulkner to Missoula
Initiate book clubs,reading circles,have affairs,realize
the essential clash of civilization between urban and bucolic
Ideals are oxygen-to live slow as cows, with a dull pleasantry
denies the clash and cut of cultures in conflict.Aliyah (ascend)if you can-
earth folk are sure of their origins, descendents and destinations.
They are wedded and welded here-country town continuities with no irony.
Temporary purity of nature as easily disturbed as superficial manners
Be Palestinian in Texas.Be black.Be poor or richly arrogant.Be a woman or an unmanly man
Stimulation requires agitation-not acceptance, nor thin veneer smiles
Step out of line/question too much-they know who you are-THE OTHER!
Gadfly Socrates, drink your hemlock. You corrupt the youth in Lamesa,College Station,Waco,Killeen,Temple
And drop that poetry book in the trash on your way out-THANK YOU!
