When visiting poets came to Austin
for the Austin International Poetry Festival
they were driven down to San Antonio
to Gini's Tea Rooms,where Gini herself
accompanied by elves,pixies,fairies and gentle folk
served tea and scones and cucumber sandwiches
with a variety of comestibles gently known as"tea"
They then sang and performed and shared their verses
with citizens of San Antonio and surrounds
(a town best known for its defeat @the ALAMO
and the city that has grown around that Mission statement)
Gini was the consummate host.Poets gave their best
The tea flowed hot as summer in Texas.It was a MAD HATTER's TEA PARTY!
Those times of welcome and hospitalities have morphed
Tea gave way to coffee.Sweet Gini cooks in Austin now
and counterfeit "Tea"Parties sprout like magic mushrooms after rain
Tea admits of varieties and diversities-green,white,black -and all
can be served both hot as politics or cool as culture
The REAL Party lives in the teapots and hearts of those who welcome in change
They meet each night@open mikes.They are happy to sing and share
and tea becomes more than a commodity
when someone cares.
