Susan Bright,Dr Marvin Kimbrough,Albert Huffstickler
so many more ( a litany would steal your life-just know
they were on your streets with pots and pans and poems for peace
encouraging literacy with deep and abiding commitment

Poets park bench in Hyde Park?Thank you Albert Huffstickler
Houston-Tillotson poetry performances?Thank you Dr Marvin
What lives is what we remember, and even memories fail
The world we live in has been made by those hands
who carved silences into songs, and whose presence convinced Councils
to spare trees,support Springs,and love this (borrowed)land
as much as those who go before and after us.
Whether they were larger than us depends upon perspective-
their achievements pass a baton to the young-
will you be brave enough to see beyond yourself
into the community that relies upon each and every one?
Your contribution may not be poetic-but poetry lives
because each tongue speaks a different language
and every ear needs listen to the differences
This is why we gather-to hear the future
acknowledging our elders/ancestors
to make our space a human place
where each and all and every might be heard
and honor life as much as every word
