Even now,one is still a number
though sometimes it goes to zeros
She waited until age meant
the term"spinster"rather than "individual"
All the rest married,divorced,had children
This was the done thing. They were done
She waited for her Knight In Shining Armor
He was a rustbucket of drunken cliches
She saw the Available Choices
Chose to glow Solo.Alone.One
If love ever entered,it left again
Did not stay for a morning /repetition
And she had a cat and comfortable slippers
Solitary is not confinement when you choose
He had love like clothes he divested
She had a wardrobe of work dresses
Strange how some are immune to coupling
They sing solo in the shower and smile
Watching,witnessing weddings(and divorces
Always the bridesmaid/never aligned
We enter this world through another
We leave by ourselves in our time
Some will be one forever
One heart,one home,one Crown.
