(Response to a poem of that title by Mary Krenek)
all that arises like rocks and reefs
when dreams become real
reflection slows me down
tears bring out my smiles
there is reason for affection
is the softer path through roses
thorns of criticism shred petals
buds and blossoms know
so i cry in to my mirror
to see the smiles under
emerge as winter sunshine
when cold and rain have gone.
