may we all be heard
words are bells
let them ring!

POETRY CUTBACKS

Production is down as income decreases
Rap is still UP(along with hip-hop)
HALLMARK has outsourced a lot of occasional verse to China
(Confucian greeting cards are confusing consumers)
Text poems are popular with the ipod people
who also love the brevity of haiku.Cowboy poetry
and iambic pentameter for country music folk
Weddings, birthdays and funeral demands supply our main market
Some folk are withdrawing from public sharings(to save costs)
They are refusing to die, live in de facto relationships and have no children.
Notice how newspaper funeral notices are so prosaic?
Folk no longer write letters-so the epistolary movement is historic
Email has replaced the Post Office-so no poems are mailed.
Earphones and laptops mean silence in coffee shops
Conversation long replaced by cell phones.
No body reads anymore. It is a wonder you made it so far
We have decided to close down this poem-
cutbacks have dictated layoffs of verbs, nouns and participles
and who can afford punctuation after e e cummings?
