Our 2012 Texas Poet Laureate is a wondrous raconteur!
she unwrapped carpet snake stories of TB as a child
whereby she was exposed to isolation,self-initiation
relationship with the natural world via observation
and (ultimately) description, narration, verbal ,written and visual depiction
She blessed her illness as a formative and positive experience-
as we were by the truth of her scaffolding verse in the House of Poetry
She built a Safe Place for us to dwell within as temporary shelter
until we each could create our own hovel, palace or communal dwelling of words
whereby and wherein our world could celebrate its existence ,continuance and intrinsic essence
Karla Morton similar-her stories of breast cancer survival
and its effects upon intimates and strangers were made of Truth or Dare
Alan Birklebach's wife knitted bookmarks while he read
and she then gave them to poets she enjoyed the most
Dave Parsons defined Texans' poetic response as a deep UMMMM
Each brings a blank map to their year of pilgrimage
Each stamps their boot life upon metaphorical saddles
San Antonio's first Poet Laureate's work is banned in Arizona
Dripping Springs has a Poet Laureate,as does little Wimberley,Salado, and Temple!
The process of selection deems one soul as representative of all, each ,every(temporarily)
The laurel passes in time-like life, pain, birth, joy, death
Be your own Poet Laureate.
