let them ring!

you canot ignore the dragon

of SXSW-you may choose to ride the dragon-
to play on the streets,to consume, imbibe
you may even choose to wear a penguin laminate
or just leave town until the gridlock dies down
All options present themselves-but you cannot ignore
the multiple parties on every street ,impossible parking
and a city importing every luminary to add to its temporary lustre
This year i chose gardening and poetry
There is no poetry content to SXSW(there once was-
but now only rap and hiphop represent verse and rhyme
Music rules every available stage-and to play
one simply sets up one's own alternative stage
This is the way for all cultural independents
to make ,create, share, connect on the village level
when corporate for profit behomeths exploit our gentle agents of harmony

i look in the bulging CHRONICLE-see far too many acts
decide to put this information to good use-i mulch the paper
and use it as compost.I also fold paper under the mulch
to keep all legal weeds at bay/then read while i garden
of all the musical acts i will never see play

i used to prowl late night streets-all post-poetry
this temptation exists, but this town is now valet parking
and those nights of adventures are only stories to be shared
in a South Austin library in a universe far far away
from dragons...
