words are bells
let them ring!

AUNTIE GOLDIE'S 90th

We have flown in for family
calls ,blood bound and born
in to an Irish spark of Catholic poverty
where education meant mobility,and we
now live round the world.Migrate individually/collectively
from dancers in New York to lawyers in Canberra
In a circle we see each other-Goldie sits and smiles
Black and white photographs revisit memories of relatives
few of us remember past our childhoods
Here the living recount the dead-animate with tales
that spark reminescences and a curious nostalgia
for a world long turned digital where once was backyard gossip
and cup of tea conversations. Here we refresh from the family spring-
pass on smiles and stories-speech as highly valued as literacy
is still learned behaviour. When asked to speak, she shares her gratitudes
When volunteers reply,it attunes in mood and content.(she is content)
We file from her retirement home to our borrowed ones
counting time together as gold, her as platinum
her continuance priceless..her eyes diamonds...
