ONE NIGHT IN CUBA

sister#1 shares two ($85 each)tix with me and sister#2/we
bus to queensland performing arts centre/queue
enter auditorium in seats K21 and 22
Cheer leader in grey suit revs up crowd
One by one,in white suits, musicians enter stages
(Americans are not allowed to go to Cuba-
Buena Vista Social Club introduced us to these Spanish stylings
now we get to ingest harmonies both historic and happy
First half may as well be muzak.Percussion solos/solo singing-
After interval the pace starts to levitate dancers
out of seats along the sides and to the front Some sway on stage
until seven women are undulating with the band/and
even the colorful professional dancers must merge with this wave
Every one stands in their seats.Cameras flash ,videos capture
energies that stroke and stoke the night in to fever
Till the 15 band members file offstage to an outdoor stage
where more of the same will entice more to move
We catch the last bus ($4.50 each)feel like tourists in our town
Smile at the late night waves slapping around us
Cube is very close to us.I wish the urge to dance
could translate in to freedom for journalists and poets
