a dentist office epiphany
to be clean as my teeth need to be-otherwise holey
eye repair to ACC where students can practice on live patients like me
they get experience-i get clean teeth-a bargain!
she is vietnamese -speaks three languages
fragile as a flower in a new vase-she interviews me
but her bravery in paying to stay in this new country
betrays a glass thinness that might otherwise shatter
apart from her steel will to be her best /
so she devotes herself to dentistry/and we
smile over lands,cultures,languages and teeth
Thin next is being examined/she comprehensively checks
for nodes,cancers,moles-any signs of red alert health
Her supervisor smiles and trains by example-reducing stress
by pointing out every tiny evidence of compromised health
When exam finished,she asks her student"did you give of your best?Yes?
All we can give is 100%.In this moment,if you gave of your very best
then tomorrow I can ask of you no less."
