Poets who speak up and out end up in exile
Adonis of Syria calls the Arab Spring an "autocratic facade"
And it is hard to see how the expressed desires of peoples
to live freely have resulted in substantive changes as yet
Military still rule,Internet censored or banned, civilians
still have only the streets and their bodies to offer change
Gaddafi had gold and oil.We invaded, destabilized and dethroned him.
Iran has oil.We apply sanctions and economic blockades/yet are afraid to invade
Syria kills its citizens. We do nothing. We suppressed the people of Bahrain
and apply interventionist policies in Palestine/supporting Israeli occupations
Writings on the walls ,rap rhythms and rhymes, wisdom of the people
still flow like new blood through Algeria,Libya,Egypt,Tunisia
Poets are re-scripting the eternal desires of folk to live freely
But who reads poetry?
