we/divided/rivers

forced them to stand vertical in classrooms
we haircut forests/clearfelled them
chainsawed literary critiques
until not worth the paper dollars
banned hemp and jailed the air
for civil disobedience in airports
made ONE LAW (subject to exemptions
for the rich, the powerful, for whom mountains quake
and rivers dam straight as Marines on parade.

planets speak in motion-curl silence like a joint
words are smoke weed to them-clouds surround us
when the sun comes to burn with and for us
we arrest it /impound the tour bus of the uni-verse
and resume drinking ourselves to oblivion

next to the new ruta maya
was wild weeds and a block of trees/these
were rolled over and became
clapboard thin wall cages for people
who complain about the noise.

wood and brass and silver fillings
gold stares and shopping movie Malls steal time
steal it back!step outside,please!
