i am sitting in this afternoon's newspaper sunshine
my rescued cat watching from a safe distance
a solitary butterfly lands on my Financial Times
i watch her slowly rest her wings..count ...to nine
she ,rested,flies to her certain end in this sunlit afternoon
i cannot resume reading..come inside and share this
these nine heartbeats of one butterfly's wings
on an afternoon when sunlight defined the day
and all seemed right with life and death
