let them ring!

FOR BURTON SUNBURY

All you wanted was to sing your songs
In this heat,you had to lay roofs to survive
When you fell(first)-it was not Adam but a stroke
that took your strength and gave you time to sing
I used to see you walking round South Austin-
i remembered when you sang-ERNIE THE ARMADILLO
WATERFALL-humor and love you were smiling in
Now you are gone before your time(deprived of oxygen)
We deprived of your smile and Texas charm
You played our poetry open mikes when no one came
You sang as a gift at parties,Saxon Pub-with bands you loved
and that was the mark of who you were-"a lover ,not a fighter"
I do not want to have to share your absence
with anyone other than those who loved you then
when you were bright and smiling in an Austin Spring
and every one of us young and green
