So you stop playing music.You leave your homeland
You apply for political asylum.This is secured.
Now you and your family are in a new land
where music is free and musicians thin
You sing Rumi/Hafiz.You play tabla/sitar
You are a living national treasure.
This is the measure of life itself-
that love should express in all its forms
and every human beaming enjoy these freedoms

Say you are a cartoonist
and you draw Mohamed
and you get death threats

Say you are a film maker
and you film the life of the Prophet
You are stabbed on the streets of peaceful Amsterdam
a note explaining why knifed in your chest

Say you are a teacher of women
Your school is bombed
You are threatened

Say you are a woman accused
You get scarred/lashed/jailed

This is not religion.This is murder.
