Book

there is a cult/that worships books
it will have none of KINDLE nor NOOK
it collects leather bound volumes
and smells the covers after publication
They even sneer at paperbacks
leave pulp fiction on the racks
own libraries at school and home
and every book is one they own
They started young-read to by parents
who encouraged them to take more risks
soon they were speaking words aloud
following examples and feeling proud
Perhaps they won a prize or two
(this is what book lovers tend to do-
for a published poem in anthology
or a locally published short story...
Perhaps they want to write their own
They have been to writing programs
learned the tricks of every trade
begin the first line(got it made!
Perhaps a novel lives in their skin
At night-this is what they dream
That they will be a published author
if it does not work out(well-it oughta!
They will scribble and scribe their way
until the bells on Judgment Day
No matter what else gets in their way
Authors Need Attention Paid!
So my warning if its not too late
become a text based illiterate
use cell phones for your conversation
join the ranks of TV nation
Trust only in advertising
You will not need to write a thing
Just BUY CONSUME WORK and DIE
You will be your own short story!
someone else may share the tale
of a life so ordinary,it even failed
to make obituary worthy of poetry
