DEMOLISHING PARIS

People forget how Le Halles (famous for sets in Les Miserables)
was demolished to make way for the Pompadou Center
and how Napoleon 111 cleared streets and houses for a direct line of fire on mobs
Houses do not write poetry, and blue plaques remind us-most poets are homeless
Dylan Thomas' begging letters .Joyce's joyless Dublin tower(one night was enough!)
W B Yeats tower (now a Museum)in Connemarra,.Hendrix's house in London.
Dicken,s London home a Museum as in that Clint Eastwood film.
Wordsworth's Lake District Dove Cottage selling tourist postcards and artifacts
Bronte Museums.Harry Ransom's cult of objects associated with writers-
from D H Lawrence's slippers to Edgar Allen Poe's writing desk
None of these objects ever wrote anything.Algonquin Hotel
as famous as the Chelsea and that White Horse Inn-by themselves
no intrinsic claim to fame.Auras live in the text and performances-
not in the costumes for GONE WITH THE WIND!
The new GLOBE far superior to Shakespeare's days-i say
DEMOLISH ALL PASTS!lest we mistake the object for the spirit
the surviving architecture for the song, the Gutenberg Bible for Jesus
the Holy Grail for the hemlock.,the Holy Cross for the ongoing crucifixion of living Muses..
Love your living while they are here-the rest is dross..
