If you wish to aid the victims of a natural catastrophe
direct aid on the ground has ultimate efficiency
Filtered through bureaucracies/autocracies,it dissipates
like military budgets in Iraq and Afghanistan
or $100 hammers for the Pentagon
CIA carried suitcases of dollars to bribe commanders
who would then direct their soldiers to stand down
Bribery greases the wheels of international diplomacy
and forgiveness of debt just another tactic
to solidify political power of each country's elite
Authoritarian regimes are inimical to democratic demands
as they have military might and are responsive only to their armed supporters
How many peaceful protestors in Egypt,Libya,Syria have to be gunned down
before appeasement fails, and armed revolt might aid civilian uprisings?
Ask NATO ,when Britain and USA denied"boots on the ground"
Libya is still disputed territory.Syrian still an autocracy.Iran a theocracy.
All supported by subsidized guns and military. The only question is-
are we supporting this? When China imprisons dissidents/artists
do we go silent for trade purposes? When Iran imprisons hitch hikers,
dare we take direct action?Unresolved contradictions abound
The price of freedom is ....
