may we all be heard
words are bells
let them ring!

KARAOKE FROG

He is professional. This is his gig
He has a set list (on computer
and may as well like Brian Eno
just flip the tape on at the start
return to stop it @the end)
He will play what they have heard before
He has tuned and is in tune with his audience
They creak in for the seafood buffet
They studiously ignore him
unless and until he plays one they know
He is reconciled to being background
He will be paid tonight(set rate
He will take Union breaks
It makes no difference to him who is there
They do not know him.Nor do they care
Another busload of pensioners will creak in dinner
The price at night is higher. He has not yet counted
how many days and nights he has been here
When he leaves(or dies)-they will simply hire another hand
The roundup begins in the sky above him
Which goes first? his audience-or him?
He watches them eating.Thinks meat.
